Center Stage Challenge 1: Cinderella the Musical

I just loved the color scheme to this one and the fun and youthfulness to it.

My over all theme is modern fantasy.

Cinderella:

I wanted to go for something light and flowing for her. Not truly princess-like either. To me she is not a princess, but a strong willed girl that takes things into her own hands and gets them done. Even if she needs a bit of help now and again, but who really doesn't need that. I love the blue color palette for this character, but wanted to add a bit of orange to give it a bit more life.

Evil Stepmother:

For her I went with a more structured and bold statement. Something that says "I'm here, now deal with it", but still living a bit in the past.

I don't really know what else to say.

Designs belong to me!

I like you concept for the designs. I think of all the fairy tales Cinderella lends itself very well to a modern spin. I do like that you moved away from the more traditional "princess" look for her.

As far as the design goes I think that it is maybe a bit safe in terms of Cinderella's gown. It's a beautiful piece don't get me wrong. The colours work very well and I think you used your inspiration very well. I do love the dramatic neckline and the gradient in the over skirt is beautiful and very feminine. Considering that this gown is the costume of the show it does really need to stand out. Once again I could see this dress doing that but because we are only designing two costumes for the whole production it is very hard to truely comment on the show stopping ability of the dress. Personally I do find that it maybe a tad understated. That being said I could see this dress on the red carpet.

The glass slippers fit the dress beautifully and I can see them working well on stage as far as wearability as well as being easy to engineer one falling off. I would maybe suggest a clear strap that wouldn't be seen from the audience just so they stay on just that little bit more securely. Just a bit of a randome thought.

Your ability to use the same colour pallet for two costumes and create something completely different is wonderful. I think you managed to create a wonderful costume for the Evil Stepmother. Of the two costumes I think this is the stronger design. The details are wonderful and the overall impact would work very well close up as well a from a distance on stage

I do like your illustration style but I almost wish that you had included hair for these designs. I think that it would have helped establish the characters just a little bit more.

Overall very nice work. Thank you for sharing these and I really look forward to seeing more work from you!
